HIP-HOP WISDOM? RECENT RAP WISDOM

MISSION:
VACANT LOT
is a site that contains hip-hop QUOTES and words of WISDOM that can be used in APPLIED situations - meaning, ANY situation. If you like what you see, spread the word, TELL a friend, or better yet, SUBMIT  content!! ~ Peace, d.b

We have added some more features to Vacant Lot; videos, authors page, more quotes of wisdom, a search field, but we still have remained the overall focus of this site; hip-hop wisdom. So use the wisdom, spread it amongst your friends and family.

Just to remind those that don't know, Vacant Lot is an initiative site to spread the positive aspects of hip-hop culture through its street wisdom. We want people to realise that you can use hip-hop culture quotes, and apply it to any situation; so whether you are a hip-hop head, middle-aged, or just trying to learn about the culture, wisdom is not really confined to any cultural boundaries - wisdom transcends.

So with that rant, we are still looking for people to submit content: Art work, lyrics, videos, clothing, and even audio - yes, we are developing a Vacant Lot PodCast mixtape show. So if you got what it takes, e-mail us, or add us to your Myspace:

Literary devices are techniques used to evaluate a body of text; they help us understand what the author is trying to convey, and under what context.

Hip-Hop lyrics are rich with metaphors, simile's, syllogism, and other techniques. The following is a breakdown of such devices that are used not only in Hip-Hop, but literary texts alike:

LOGICAL FALLACY
In philosophy, the term logical fallacy properly refers to a formal fallacy : a flaw in the structure of a deductive argument which renders the argument invalid. However, it is often used more generally in informal discourse to mean an argument which is problematic for any reason, and thus encompasses informal fallacies – valid but unsound claims or bad nondeductive argumentation – as well as formal fallacies.

SIMILIE
noun
1. a figure of speech in which two unlike things are explicitly compared, as in “she is like a rose.”
2. an instance of such a figure of speech or a use of words exemplifying it.
Origin: 1350–1400]

IRONY
i‧ro‧ny1 /ˈaɪrəni, ˈaɪər-/ Pronunciation Key - –noun, plural -nies.

1. the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.

2. a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated.

3. (esp. in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., esp. as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion.
